DZP #3 Creation

What’s a DZP?

DZP stands for Day Zero Project, but is also known as the list of 101 things to do in 1001 days. It’s a massive to-do list, essentially, but it doesn’t have to be all work. You can put personal goals and fun stuff on there. My next list may be ALL fun. There is now a website that helps you create the list, but it’s not necessary. I started making mine before they had the list creation tools, back when it was just an idea going around the interwebs because of a blog post the creator posted in 2003. This will be my third DZP list.

Why do a DZP?

Because it’s fun. If you don’t think a giant to-do list sounds fun than I don’t recommend doing a DZP. However, you are welcome to follow along with mine.

What do you put on the list?

Depends on the list, and all sorts of stuff. I think I’m going to make this one divided into 10 fun and nerdy categories, such as “books”, “video games” and “pop culture”. You can sort of think of it as making my own achievement list- video game style.

Previous successes

As I said, I’ve done two DZP lists so far. On both lists, I achieved about 25%. Apparently, I think too ambitiously, and that I’ll have both more time and money than I actually do. Towards the end of each list (like now), I start to give up on it as priorities and interests have changed. But, that’s okay…to me the fun is in making the list, and the initial pursuit of those goals. I have tried new foods, learned new crafts (like soaping!), read books I wouldn’t have picked up otherwise, and started brushing my cats’ teeth. Even if I don’t achieve the majority of things on the list. It still helps me focus on what is important to me, and I always get something from it.

The new list

My current list, which I’ve abandoned now pretty much, ends on June 29th. Therefore, my new list will start July 1st. Since I dislike summer, this will give me something to look forward to. 🙂 You’ll see more posts about it before then, as I make my list.

If you want to make your own

If you are inspired to make your own list, you can join me and a handful of other folks at Challenge Nerd…a Yahoo! group where we support each other’s challenges (DZP lists, book challenges, or whatever else you’d like).
