Figuring Out Fastpasses

To stay up until midnight on Saturday or to go to bed like normal?

I will be able to register for our Fastpasses for our WDW trip Sunday at 12am. Now, chances of the trip happening are still getting worse…it’s looking pretty slim now. However, in order to get useful Fastpasses booking as soon as possible is a necessity.

What is a Fastpass? Basically it is a reservation to ride an attraction at a certain time. You make 3 passes for each day your are visiting the parks. The Fastpasses allow you to skip the lines of a few of the major attractions. Fastpasses are critical to your touring plan if you want to ride more than one of the super-popular rides on the same during even moderate crowd levels. Lines for Disney rides can easily exceed an hour (even for kids rides like Peter Pan!), why spend all that time in line when you could be riding more rides??!?

So, do I stay up late in order to ensure good selections if we do go? Or do I not bother since the trip is pretty much a hypothetical now?

What Fastpasses do I hope to get?

Day 1: Disney’s Hollywood Studios

At DHS, there are two groups of fastpasses. You can only select one from group A (which is the most important group). Our top choices, in order are:

  • Toy Story Midway Mania (either 9am or 10:30am)
  • The Great Movie Ride (2:30pm or 3:30pm)
  • Fantasmic

From group B, we have lots of options but none of them really need a fastpass. This is mainly because DHS has had a lot of closures and is low on rides (most of the options are shows). Our choices for group B are:

  • MuppetVision 3D (4:00 or 5:00)
  • Star Tours (9:30 or 10)
  • If we can’t do either of those, we’ll take one for a show.

Day 2: Animal Kingdom

Unlike DHS, there are no groups at AK.

  • Kilimanjaro Safaris (9am or 1pm)
  • It’s Tough to be a Bug (11:30am)
  • Festival of the Lion King (4pm or 5pm)

Day 3: Epcot

Here we have another group situation. Also, Mission Space will be moving to the Group A category in the spring, so for this day we can’t choose both Mission Space and Test Track.

Group A

  • Test Track (9am)
  • Illuminations

Group B:

  • Spaceship Earth (1pm)
  • Any random one for after 6pm

Day 4: Magic Kingdom

This is the day that matters. In particular, Seven Dwarves Mine Train will be hard to get, and even first thing in the morning, it may already have a line.

  • Seven Dwarves Mine Train (9am)
  • Peter Pan (10am)
  • Monster’s Inc (2pm)
  • Enchanted Tales with Belle (1pm)
  • It’s a Small World (11am)
  • Under the Sea (12pm)

Day 5: Animal Kingdom

  • Dinosaur (8am)
  • Nemo (3pm)
  • Any (afternoon)

Day 6: Magic Kingdom

  • Big Thunder (9am)
  • Splash (9am or 10am)
  • Haunted Mansion (11am or 1pm)
  • Pirates (any)

Day 7: Epcot

Group A:

  • Living with the Land (9am)

Group B:

  • The Seas with Nemo (11am)
  • Turtle Talk with Crush (2pm)

Day 8: Magic Kingdom

  • Anything Good!

  1. Glad you made a decision! It seems to me like one of the nicest things about staying on property is getting to book all you FP+ on the same night. For our trip, I had to stay up until midnight 4 days in a row, which was a bummer.
