Human Foods Cats Shouldn’t Eat

In case of emergency contact Animal Poison Control (888) 426-4435

A couple of my cats are very interested in human food, so I am always looking up what foods are okay to give cats. I haven’t found many comprehensive lists…many lists just have 10 or so items, and different lists have different items. So, I am going to attempt to create a “catch-all” list here.

First, some disclaimers: 1) human food should never replace an actual meal; it should not be given in large quantities and only act as an alternative snack; 2) diet recommendations from your vet precede all things in this list, and it is important to consult your vet when making changes to a cat’s diet; and 3) this list is NOT complete (despite my attempt)…if you are wondering about a particular food not on this list, do your research (and feel free to comment here with the results). I plan to keep this list growing. My time is quite limited, so I will be adding items to it slowly. Feel free to leave comments with other items you know, experiences, etc…
