I’ve been excited by this rumor for quite sometime, but it was officially confirmed this week.
Walt Disney World will be building a Jungle Cruise themed restaurant in Adventureland! GENIUS!
Here’s an article from WDW News Today.
For those of you who haven’t been to Disney, the Jungle Cruise is a classic Disney ride based on movies such as The African Lion and The African Queen. Thinking trekking through a jungle as it was perceived in the 1940s/50s. All the scenes (animals, cannibals, etc…) are audio-animatronics. It’s a bit on the cheesy side, but Disney embraces its campy style through humorous self-deprecating tour guides who make fun of the experience. Adults go on the ride because of the humor, and because everyone loves a slow boat ride. It’s special effects and thrills aren’t anywhere near many of the other rides, but it remains a very well-loved attraction (and on my top 5 list).
Now, Disney, is making a restaurant based on this ride. In addition to continuing the physical theme, they also will carry the humor over to the restaurant. The story is that the underpaid boat skippers opened up the restaurant to make some extra money on the side. Disney is known for some interactive dining experiences such as 50s Prime Time Cafe where you get yelled (lovingly) if you don’t finish your veggies or if you put your elbows on the table. I’m wondering if this restaurant will be similar in that the staff will make their lame, but very humorous, jokes throughout your meal. Amazing!
It’s set to open in November 2015. Even with a delayed opening, that will hopefully mean it’s open during my next trip! This will likely be my #1 to-do activity of the trip. That’s how much I love this ride.
